By Default SQL 2008 listens in dynamic port, we may need SQL to listen in specific port (eg.1433) incase if this DB has to be accessed over firewall. Below are the steps to do it

  • Open SQL config Manager > SQL Server network configuration
  • Select Protocols for <Instance>  > TCP/IP
  • Select the appropriate address, delete “0” in the Dynamic ports
  • Specify the static port to be used in “TCP Port”

  • If it should be changed for all IPs, do the above in “IPALL” section
